Paper Reduction

- The Department of Computing and Information Technology is in the process of refining our campus work habits to help reduce the printing and copying by both students and staff.
- The “Hope ... IT Works” initiative, championed by CIT, is an effort to bring awareness of technological efficiency to campus departments. This initiative will help not only by saving paper, but by also reducing the number of work hours required to perform recurring tasks.
- Even though the campus has been purchasing 30% PCC (post consumer content) paper, we still need to reduce the dependency on printed materials and use the technology already in place in a more productive and efficient manner.
- General lab and library printers are set to print on both sides of the paper by default. The college is reducing paper use by encouraging everyone to save documents as a PDF file rather than printing. The library has a large format scanner that allows you to scan a document and save it as a PDF file. You can save your documents to a USB drive, burn to a CD, or use one of the Library’s Multi-Function Printers (MFPs) to email a copy of your document to yourself or others.
- The elimination of the monthly printed budget reports (now sent as PDFs via email), the online student timecard project, and the “Copy Works” project are recent successes reducing printed materials and saving significant staff time.
