And the LORD God put the human in the garden of Eden to serve and protect it.
—Genesis 2:15

The Hope College community appreciates God's gift of creation and believes we show respect for God's world through conscientious stewardship of the earth's resources. This stewardship includes considering the theological connections with our environment, critical examination of our own consumption habits and advocacy for an ecologically just world. Care of creation is part of our call to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8).

Hope offers classes that study our Christian responsibility for conservation and stewardship of creation. Talk to Steve Bouma-Prediger in the Religion department about available courses, such as Earth and Ethics and Ecological Theology and Ethics.
